Natl Inter-State Sr Athletics: Dutee wins 100m gold

Odisha star sprinter Dutee Chand won the women 100 metre gold medal, clocking 11.38 seconds on the fourth and last day of the 59th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship at PAC Stadium in Lucknow (UP) today.

Archana Suseendran (Tamil Nadu, 11.50s) and Himashree Roy (West Bengal, 11.63s) settled for silver and bronze medal respectively. Dutee earlier clocked 11.45 seconds in her heats and 11.35 seconds in semifinals.

However, Dutee failed to meet the qualifying mark of 11.24 seconds for World Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Doha (Qatar) from 27 September to 6 October, 2019.

Meanwhile, struggling period continued for top Odisha male sprinter Amiya Kumar Mallick, who finished fourth in 100m sprint with a time of 10.72 seconds. Vidya Sagar (Karnataka) won the gold with a time of 10.59 seconds, while Nuzrat Ali (Haryana, 10.66) and Safikul Mondal (West Bengal, 10.69) secured silver and bronze respectively. In 200 metre sprint, Mallick finished eighth and last, clocking 21.99s.
